That's how I'd sum up the A-10 Thunderbolt II or as it's more commonly known, the Warthog. To get an up close and interior look at the sheer firepower it's 30 mm cannon packs see the video below.

They would have discontinued it because they hate "dirt divers" supporting infantry. They only want the wild blue, etc. But maybe they see the handwriting on the wall, that counter insurgency is the future and there ain't a lot of insurgent air forces or demand for carpet bombing.
I'd say you're exactly right Dick. We need fewer f-22's a more attack ships like the ac-130 and a-10. Pretty hard to provide effective close air support from 15,000 feet at mach 1.
